PROFESSIONAL MEDIA EXPERIENCE
I began my career in the media industry by working as a television writer and producer in ABS-CBN, one of the biggest broadcasting companies in the Philippines. I held the role of a writer and segment producer for various shows such as Search for a Star in a Million (a reality talent search) and At Home Ka Dito (an infotainment/ lifestyle show). I also worked as a production assistant for ASAP (a variety show), Game Ka na Ba? (A game show) and Star in a Million (talent search).
After more than two years of working in ABS-CBN, I moved to ABC5 (now TV5) where I worked as a writer and producer for Philippine Idol. I was part of the team that pioneered the Idol show franchise managed by Freemantle Media.
In 2008, I left the Philippines and I moved to Brunei Darussalam to pursue a career in advertising. I worked there for more than four years as an advertising copywriter, brand communication specialist, and event organiser. I pioneered events organisation and production in the advertising company that I worked for. I also worked as an events host in various small and large events, including product launches, festivals, and a concert.
I primarily transformed advertising briefs into engaging and creative advertising campaigns. I pitched creative ideas, produced a wide range of below-the-line and above-the-line advertising materials, wrote PR materials, organised creative projects, as well as handled budget and strategic communication.
I handled and produced a wide range of campaigns for a diverse range of clients. These clients included HSBC Brunei, Telephone Brunei (TelBru) and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I produced a few of the out-of-the box campaigns such as “The Caring Cup” (Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf), “Wow” (HSBC Credit Card Campaign), “Unlock a Privileged Life of Distinct Colour” (HSBC Visa Platinum Launch) and “Be Home or Be Wild” (Telephone Brunei Sign-up Campaign). You can see some of my creative work below.
In sum, working in an advertising firm has taught me the value of creativity, working under pressure, working in a team, managing small and large projects, and delivering innovative outcomes.
In 2012, I received a special award, "Copywriter of the Year", in recognition of my creative and innovative contribution to producing a diverse range of campaigns. Check out some of my outputs below.
After a few years of creative professional experience, I decided to pursue a career in academia. I initially worked in the media industry because I wanted to gain professional experiences in the media industry. This is for the fact that I have always believed that learning the operations of the industry would help me in teaching media and communications to aspiring media practitioners.
